Michael B. Gladson
Hi, I'm Michael B. Gladson, and my career has been dedicated to improving health care.
Michael Gladson's Story
Ever since he was a child with a congenital heart condition, Michael Gladson has been fascinated with health care. He cannot remember wanting to be anything else other than a physician. And so he did it, by superior performance in school and a love of learning. He believes that all knowledge is useful and that we can never learn enough. Michael always had a lot of concern and compassion for people in poverty, and has given free or reduced price care to many patients over the years.
After practicing medicine for 27 years (6 as a primary care physician and the rest as a psychiatrist) as an outstanding physician, Michael's career was interrupted by a DEA investigation. He was alleged to have prescribed pain medications improperly. Although eventually cleared of these allegations, it took three long years during which time he closed his practice and spent thousands of dollars for legal counsel. Michael is just now getting back on his feet but during the three-year hiatus from medicine he did use the time to obtain a masters degree in health administration and to teach psychology and neuropathology at a branch campus of the University of Cincinnati.
Michael would like to find a position which combines administrative and clinical duties. He feels that his newly acquired knowledge in health care management can make more difference in helping to improve health care than any impact he could have as a physician on the "front lines". He believes that health care should be more equitably distributed and available to all, and that efforts need to be made to cut exorbitant prices charged by pharmaceutical companies and other health care entities that control large segments of the market. The Obama Health Care Accountability and Portability Act is a step in the right direction, but much more needs to be done.
